LUNCH AHEAD

"Lunch"                   pastel            16" x 7"

A doodle at noon.
I've always liked this photo of mare following lunch (!) and foal in background trying out the grass so I did it, quickly.   Figure pleased me since person in photo was hidden behind mare, so above is pure invention.  (Sarah...I didn't even try to make figure look like Fan - whoever it is looks weary and male.)

Enjoy

Passing Grade

A Blue Gee         pastel        18" x 18"

In both there are flaws but enough passes to make it onto the page!

Enjoy!

Best Scratching Post in Miles - finished

"BSPIM"       color pencil           5" x 7"

I was rather impressed with the post - that's artistic licence!    The length of the strands and the drama are pretty much dead on - angle of head more tilted up.  My main apology is not getting details in blaze accurately.   Photo is below

Enjoy!

Jenny & Flying Mane

"Jenny"              pastel              8" x 11"

On her favorite chair, her morning sleep - preceded by her apres breakfast snooze and to be followed by her 4 hour afternoon nap.   I do believe the lass is putting on weight!

BELOW - testing out new color crayons, Prismacolor, the obvious choice as a subject was Fan's horse with flying mane.  Not finished but gives you a sense of the potential for detailed work.

Fan's Horse - Best Scratching Post in Miles

Fan's Horse - Best Scratching Post in Miles     Pastel      8" x 10"

Another "been wanting to do this for ages".   Photo taken in 2009, always loved it.    A blissful and energetic scratch for this gee-gee.   Ain't we lucky that we don't have to rely on the perfect post?   Mane and forelock unclipped so they flew in all directions.

Enjoy!

Zenyatta Finished

Pastel  10"x16"

Way back when Zenyatta "Unfinished" appeared.   This is that picture finished.  Took me a long time to get there.   I feel very ambivalent about this:   it's the only race she ever lost, and her last before retiring to become a mother.   I couldn't bear to show the winner.   Her jockey wept after the loss.

If you do not know Zenyatta, look her up.   She's the lady who danced, and you can watch her moves on YouTube.

Framed and on the wall it hangs behind me where the light is best and the reflection minimal.  It's good to get up and turn around.

It was a long day.....

Pastel 14" x 24"

IT's a SKETCH!    I have to change the name of this blog!   So like it for what it is.   My time has been scooped and so I guess SKETCHES RULE!   They're loose, often more telling than detailed work and (for me) fun - and fast.

Zenyatta WIP

 Pastel  17"x12"

That terrible moment.   Title is somewhat reference to her future (and condition of sketch) as a mare - can't wait to see if her progeny take after their Mum, as in those great dancing and incomparable racing skills.
