Gosh its 2017!

Pastels and Watercolour put aside.

Now large paintings on either fabric or wood faced 'cavasses'.   Paint with wall paint, not acrylics, not oils.   Incredibly economical, buy the colour testers at large hardware chains.

Herewith an assortment from the past 8 months....wildly different and lots of fun.

Pangur Perfectly Poised

Pangur now perfectly poised to whack the quill!

Should have been this way first go round but only found energy today
to reposition and size Pangur - thank you Photoshop!

Pangur? or Jenny?

First one comes from sketch of Jenny from the other evening, asleep on a pillow at my feet.
No idea why I put the sticks in.
Perhaps better changed to feathered quills - I'll bet THEY were fun to play with!

The second an invention.

A Window on Creation

The Irish monk, ca 950 AD, writing poem to Pangur Ban.
The window opens onto the actual site of the monastery
on Reichenau Island in Lake Constance.

PS  I deleted the similar post.
And NOW I notice that I forgot to shade stones on right of window AND no shading
under Pangur Ban!     YIKES!  I thought I was FINISHED!

Pangur Ban rides again....

An obsession?   Excellent therapy!
Those floorboards pull this out of shape...
The latin titles translate as "White Cat" and "Cats Catch Mice"
How obvious is that?

Final Pangur Ban

Click ONCE for a full size image...with all the detail.

Am VERY pleased with this - even with its small internal conflict:
the cat lies outside in the dusk or night
and
the scribe works in the library with light streaming through the window.
Hmmm.

Pangur Ban - the Library Cat ca 950 AD

To Honour Pangur Ban I illuminated a 'P'

Below a translation of the poem written by an Irish Monk in ca 950 AD.
Pangur Ban - means White Cat - was the cat who kept him company in the library
where he worked at translating and transcribing texts.
In those days cats in libraries were essential occupants:   they helped protect
the manuscripts from being eaten by mice.

Each of us pursues his trade,
I and Pangur my comrade,
His whole fancy on the hunt,
And mine for learning ardent.

More than fame I love to be
Among my books and study,
Pangur does not grudge me it,
Content with his own merit.

When a heavenly time! we are
In our small room together
Each of us has his own sport
And asks no greater comfort.

While he sets his round sharp eye
On the wall of my study
I turn mine, though lost its edge,
On the great wall of knowledge.

Now a mouse drops in his net
After some mighty onset
While into my bag I cram
Some difficult darksome problem.

When a mouse comes to the kill
Pangur exults, a marvel!
I have when some secret's won
My hour of exultation.

Though we work for days and years
Neither the other hinders;
Each is competent and hence
Enjoys his skill in silence.

Master of the death of mice,
He keeps in daily practice,
I too, making dark things clear,
Am of my trade a master.

Fritz...a cocker spaniel

A black cocker...think LUPO, owned by Kate and William!
Pleased...been a long time and pastel worked well for me with this.
The paper is actually white not grey...but if I edit it, the dog's whites get too sharp - unnaturally so.
